The Field Guide to Digital Islamic Law, in the form of a Google document, is a collection of resource links and annotations to SHARIAsource and other Harvard resources, global online digital resources, and a robust “Digital Islamic Law Collection.” This week we added two exciting resources to this list:
- FIHRIST is a free searchable catalogue for manuscript descriptions in Arabic and Persian. This project evolved from a joint Oxford-Cambridge of the Oxford and Cambridge Islamic Manuscript Catalogue Online (OCIMCO). The combined holdings of the contributing Libraries of the UK are of considerable intellectual and cultural significance. All participating libraries have been selectively collecting manuscripts from all subject areas, and of various geographical origins, dating from the 7th to the 19th century CE. If a digital copy of a works exists on-line, a link is provided and maintained by the institution holding the manuscript.
- The Arabic Collections Online (ACO) is a publicly available digital library of public domain Arabic language content. It currently provides digital access to 14,183 volumes across 8,675 subjects drawn from rich Arabic collections of distinguished research libraries. This mass digitization project aims to digitize, preserve, and provide free open access to a wide variety of Arabic language books in subjects such as literature, philosophy, law, religion, and more.
- The Reverson Dictionary is an Arabic-English translation search engine, Arabic words and expressions translated into English with examples of use in both languages. Conjugation for English verbs, pronunciation of Arabic examples, Arabic-English phrasebook.
