Welcome to our October Guest Blogger: Adnan Zulfiqar

It is our pleasure to welcome Adnan Zulfiqar as our October guest blog editor.

Adnan A. Zulfiqar, J.D./Ph.D., Associate Professor of Law at Rutgers Law School, is a legal historian whose scholarship focuses on critically examining assumptions and frameworks underpinning legal discourse. His primary fields of inquiry are Islamic jurisprudence, criminal law and procedure, and law in the Global South. His research focuses on legal obligation, jihad & revolution, policing and criminal codes. He previously helped draft and implement criminal codes in the Maldives and Somalia and leads the “Mapping Covid Fatwas Project”, in collaboration with Harvard Law School’s SHARIASource. Prior to his current position, Adnan was a Sharswood Fellow (2015-2017), Harry F. Guggenheim Fellow (2014-2015) and CASA Fellow (2007-2008). More recently, he was selected as a Wallace Johnson Fellow by the American Society for Legal History (ASLH) to facilitate work on his book exploring the historical development of collective duties (fard kifaya) in Islamic law.
