Weekend Scholarship Roundup

SCHOLARSHIP ROUNDUP

On Islamic Law:

  • “The renowned scholar Syed Abul Ala Maududi, in a joint gathering of Sh[ī’ī] and Sunn[ī] people, delivered a speech in Urdu on the topic of [the martyrdom of] Imam Hussain (RA). It was later published in July 1960 in Tarjuman ul Quran,” which has now been translated into English by Ali Abbas.
  • In Journeys Toward Gender Equality in Islam (Oneworld Academic, 2022), Ziba-Mir Hosseini (Centre for Middle Eastern and Islamic Law, SOAS) “explores how egalitarian gender laws might be constructed from within the Islamic legal framework.”
  • Islamic Divorce in the Twenty-First Century (Rutgers University Press, 2022), edited by Erin E. Stiles (University of Nevada) and Ayang Utriza Yakin (Catholic University of Louvain), “shows the wide range of Muslim experiences in marital disputes and in seeking Islamic divorces.”
