  • In a special episode of Borderlines, a legal podcast by Berkeley Law, entitled “Interpreting MetaCanons,” Editor-in-Chief, Professor Intisar Rabb “talk[s] about her leading research on shared methods of interpretation for textualists across different systems. “
  • In “Mohammedan Law” (The Volokh Conspiracy, August 8, 2022), Eugene Volokh (UCLA Law) discusses the appropriateness of using the term “Mohammedan Law” as a reference to Islamic law by U.S. courts.

On Islam and Data Science:

  • The National Library of Israel, founded in Jerusalem in 1892, has digitized its large collection of rare Islamic books and manuscripts.

FIELD GUIDE TO ISLAMIC LAW ONLINE: RECENT SOURCES

This Field Guide to Islamic Law Online is an ever-growing collection of links to hundreds of links to primary sources and archival collections around the world, online. We recently added new resources to this list:

  • The Islam and Middle East Collection at the National Library of Israel “contains primary and secondary sources on all aspects of Isam, from its inception to the present day. Among these are Islamic law, theology, philosophy, mysticism and legal codes; the history and study of Islamic cultures (in geographical regions with Muslim majorities or substantial minorities); and Muslim languages and literature – particularly Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Urdu.”
  • Al-Manhal offers “[h]undreds of thousands of full-text searchable publications (books, peer-reviewed journals, strategic studies, academic dissertations and educational videos) from the Arab world’s leading publishers, across a diverse range of topics, with more being added every week.”
