Weekend Scholarship Roundup

SCHOLARSHIP ROUNDUP

On Islamic Law:

  • In “Translating Islamic sources” (Great Kashmir, August 31, 2022), Furqan Majeed (Central University of Kashmir) explores the various translation movements of the Qur’ān in the European vernaculars.
  • In “The Independent Thinking Of Imam Warith Deen Muhammad” (Eurasia Review, August 31, 2022), Jihad Saafir and Mustapha Kulungu explore the legacy and thinking of “Imam Warith Deen Muhammad, a contemporary African American Muslim leader, [who] died on September 9, 2008.”
  • In “Neutralizing Secularism: Religious Antiliberalism and the Twentieth-Century Global Ecumenical Project” (Journal of Law and Religion, 37 no. 2), Rabiat Akande argues that “[a] marked feature of the contemporary U.S. constitutional landscape is the campaign by an Evangelical-Catholic coalition against the idea of secularism, understood by this alliance to mean the exclusion of religion from the state and its progressive marginalization from social life.”
  • In “Sacred Corporate Law” (SSRN, August 29, 2022), Giancarlo Anello (University of Parma) and others “investigate[] the sacred origins of the corporate form,” through analyzing, among other things, “the limitations to the use of the corporate form in Islamic law as well as the streams of Islamic law jurisprudence that recognize legal capacity to specific entities.”
