Call for Applications: Assistant Professor, California State University Long Beach

California State University Long Beach’s Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is recruiting an Assistant Professor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:                    

  • Ph.D. in a humanities, social science or related field of study
  • Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020.
  • Expertise in applied gender studies in areas including, but not limited to, public policy, public health, or non-profit or community-based organizing
  • Focus on Asian diaspora or Asian-American communities; or Muslim countries, cultures, or communities
  • Demonstrated potential for effectiveness in teaching and research in applied women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, broadly defined
  • Demonstrated potential for all levels of university service
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies
  • Successful grant writing experience
  • An interest in innovative directions and scholarship in applied gender studies
  • Ability to incorporate undergraduate students in faculty-led research projects
  • Research agenda and teaching focus in applied gender studies in which transnational, intersectional, transdisciplinary, and practical approaches to address social problems and effect social change in local, regional, and/or international contexts are prioritized. Such application areas include, but are not limited to, public health, housing policy, social welfare, economic justice, conflict-mediation, and non-profit or community-based organizing Specific focus should be within Asian diasporic, Asian-American, and/or Muslim countries, cultures, and communities
  • Ability to prepare students for advocacy, social service, and/or other public policy-related fields

DUTIES:                                                               

  • Teach lower- and upper-division core courses including: Gender, Race, Sex and Societies; Bodies and Borders; Feminist Theory; Feminist Methods; Internship, and Senior Capstone Seminar
  • Publish research in areas of specialization
  • Develop new courses in area of specialization
  • Mentor students
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community levels
