Call for Applications: Lecturer in Arabic Language, Boston University

The Boston University Department of World Languages and Literatures (WLL) invites applicants for a full-time position as Lecturer in Arabic Language to begin July 1, 2020.

Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester as well as active participation in curricular development, and some extracurricular and recruitment efforts. We seek an excellent language instructor with potential to begin serving as Arabic coordinator within 1-2 years, providing coordination and mentoring for the faculty teaching first- through third-year Arabic language.

This is a non-tenure-track appointment for an initial three-year period, renewable for an additional multi-year periods contingent upon successful performance reviews. Required qualifications are an advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Arabic, Applied Linguistics, second-language acquisition, foreign language pedagogy, or a relevant field; native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic, at least one dialect of Arabic, and English; and extensive experience and demonstrated excellence in college-level Arabic language teaching using a proficiency-based, communicative methodology and assessment. Desired qualifications include previous experience in program coordination, teacher training, and materials development; OPI certification; an ability and interest in teaching advanced level courses in Arabic; experience with educational technology and flipped classrooms. The ability to teach a second language such as Hebrew, French, or Spanish is a plus.
