From the organizers:
Dear Friends and Colleagues
On behalf of the Leiden University Shii Studies Initiative (LUSSI), I am pleased to announce that an international Ismaili Studies Conference (ISC) will take place on August 6, 7, 8, and 9, 2021 in a virtual online format. It will build on the remarkable success of the 2017 and 2014 Ismaili Studies Conferences. These multidisciplinary gatherings are a progressive endeavor to provide opportunities for the presentation of research as well as for academic discussion and debate on the scholarly endeavor termed broadly as Ismaili Studies. This Conference is convened by myself and Dr. Ahab Bdaiwi of LUSSI and the Organizing Committee includes Dr. Ali Asgar Alibhai, Dr. Daniel Beben, Dr. Alyshea Cummins, and Syed Zaidi.
The ISC is open to both academic/descriptive approaches and constructive/theological approaches to Ismaili Studies. We welcome proposals that make use of a plurality of methodologies including: history, intellectual history, anthropology, literature, critical race theory, cultural studies, religious studies, gender theory, sociology, normative religious education, stylometric analysis, ethno-musicology, constructive theologies (systematic, comparative, practical), philosophy of religion, metaphysics, ethics, critical rationalism, etc. More information is available here: https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/news/2021/03/cfp-third-international-ismaili-studies-conference
I would like to invite each of you to submit a paper proposal of 350 words for the Conference to lussi@hum.leidenuniv.nl by May 30, 2021. Include the following in your submission: Full Name; Email; Institutional Affiliation; Time-Zone; Paper Title, Abstract Text
The Conference will also announce the inaugural Karim and Rosemin Karim Book Prize featuring a $1,000 US award to the author of scholarly work judged by an impartial academic jury to be the best research on an understudied area of Ismaili Studies. The Book Prize has been established to encourage research and publication in the above-mentioned and other under-examined aspects of a broadly conceptualized Ismaili Studies. Nominations for the Prize can be made by authors, senior Ismaili Studies scholars, publishers, and scholarly institutions and sent to Professor Karim H. Karim (karim_karim@carleton.ca) by May 14, 2021. The attached document contains further details for the Book Prize.
