Online Lecture: Ibn Iyās and his narrative voice(s) by Anna Kollatz, Annemarie Schimmel Kolleg, November 26, 2020 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am

On November 26, 2020, 4-5 pm CET (10-11 am ET), Anna Kollatz will speak on some aspects of her recent research on Ibn Iyās:

Ibn Iyās and his narrative voice(s)

In this talk, Kollatz would like to discuss my approach to Ibn Iyās as a historical author and a narrator on history. Though his Badāʾiʿ al-zuhūr are among the most important sources we have at hands, our knowledge on Ibn Iyās as a historical person is quite limited. Kollatz therefore follows the traces he laid when writing about his family, friends and teachers. Additionally, it is worth probing into the characteristics of Ibn Iyās’ narrating voice(s): From which perspective(s) does the first-person narrator in the Badāʾiʿ al-zuhūr tell? Are there additional voices in this text? What about Ibn Iyās’ further writings?

For attending the lecture, as usual, please drop Anna Kollatz an email at anna.kollatz@uni-bonn.de and she will send the Zoom link a day ahead of the lecture. Please do not share the Zoom link, especially not on social media. However, feel free to spread the word!
