We are delighted to introduce our first monthly guest blogger for the 2019-2020 academic year: Mohammad Fadel, Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto. Throughout the month of September, Professor Fadel will share a series of posts on diverse topics on Islamic law and legal history.
Professor Fadel has published numerous articles in Islamic legal history and Islam and liberalism. His most recent contribution is a co-edited translation of the Muwaṭṭaʾ, published by the Harvard Series in Islamic Law. Currently, Professor Fadel is at work on three book projects: a study of the place of sacrifice in Islam and what this conception of sacrifice tells us about Islam’s conception of politics, a revision of his dissertation on legal process in medieval Islamic law, and an introduction to Islamic law.
