Call for Applications: Postdoc History of Islamic Art, University of Vienna

The University of Vienna seeks to fill the position of a Postdoc in the History of Islamic Art.

A full post-doc position as university assistant is available at the Institute of Art History from October 1, 2019 (according to university contract regulations, 40 hours per week). The position is limited to four years. Please send your application in digital form through the job center of the university.

Applications must include an academic curriculum vitae with a list of publications, information on teaching experience and on lectures and papers, the t.o.c. and a summary (maximum three pages) of the dissertation, and an exposé of a planned scholarly project.

Duration/Extent of employment: 4 year/s, 40 hours/week.

Job Description: Applications are invited for an assistant professorship (“university assistant/post doc”) on full-time basis (100%, 40 hours per week) in the History of Islamic Art at the Department of Art History, University of Vienna, Austria.
Your job responsibilities include: assisting a professor in teaching, research, and editorial work; developing and strengthening the independent research profile; independent teaching on a range of themes in the History of Islamic Art (two undergraduate seminars per term); participation in administrative tasks relating to the Department. Teaching can be done in German or English.

Preconditions: Completed doctorate and excellent research work in History of Islamic Art; a current scholarly project that you will carry out and finish on this job position (preferably leading to a state thesis or a substantial book monograph); knowledge of at least one of the main languages of textual sources in History of Islamic Art (Arabic, Persian, Ottoman-Turkish).
