Call for Applications: Texas A&M University-Commerce: Assistant Professor, Islamic World History

Assistant Professor of the History of the Islamic World (non-Western)

The History Department at Texas A&M University-Commerce invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the History of the Islamic World (non-Western), pending approval of funding, to begin in August 2019.  Candidates must have completed all requirements for a PhD in History by August 2019.  Specialization may be in any region or period.  Preference will also be given to candidates whose specialization complements and enhances departmental and college programmatic priorities. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate major and graduate courses, as well as contributing to teaching in the core curriculum (US Survey and other core courses).  Candidates are expected to engage in publication and professional activities at a level appropriate to an R2 institution, and in service to the department, college, university, and profession.

Required Education and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD in History with a specialization in the Islamic World, any period or region.  The successful candidate must demonstrate experience teaching in higher education.

Preferred Education and Experience

Preference will be given to the candidate with experience teaching upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses.  Preference will also be given to candidates whose specialization complements and enhances current departmental and college programmatic priorities.  Preference will be given to an active scholar with publications in academic venues and presentations at scholarly conferences.  Preference will also be given to candidates with an established record of academic service.
