Call for Papers: Legislation & Law of the Political Process, AALS, September 5, 2023

September 5, 2023

The Section on Legislation & Law of the Political Process is pleased to announce a Call for Papers from which one or two additional presenters will be selected for a program on “Legislation, Governance, and Democratic Fragility.” The panel will be co-sponsored with the Election Law Section and is to be held during the AALS 2024 Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. Proposed papers should address the following theme in some way:

The perceived inability of legislatures, Congress most especially, to deliver legislative solutions to our most pressing problems is a significant strain on the public’s faith in democracy. This panel will explore the under-appreciated relationship between good governance and democratic stability as well as potential reforms at both the state and federal level that might improve governance, even in this era of polarization, and thereby shore up our democracy.

Those interested in presenting should submit a paper precise of no more than 1500 words. Papers should be submitted electronically to Professor Tabatha Abu El-Haj at taa53@drexel.edu. The due date for submission is September 5, 2023. The Call for Paper presenters will be responsible for paying their registration fee and hotel and travel expenses.

Papers will be selected after review by a subcommittee including members of both Sections appointed by the Section Chair. The author of the selected paper(s) will be notified by September 30, 2023.

All inquiries should be directed to Professor Abu El-Haj, Drexel University, Kline School of Law, at taa53@drexel.edu.
