Call for Papers: Minority Families and the Law

March 10, 2019

Minority Families and the Law: Interactions of Ethnic, Religious, and Cultural Minorities with Law and State Institutions

This workshop (to be held May 30-31, 2019 at the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law in Spain) aims to investigate the interactions of minority families with law and state institutions from a socio-legal perspective, with a particular focus on issues relating to children. Due to the increasing diversity of European families, the religious, cultural, or ethnic identity of families plays a role in many contexts, including migration and naturalisation, education; parenting services; child welfare and protection systems; as well as in the courts. The workshop invites participants from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, such as law; migration and diaspora studies; transnational families; sociology; education; anthropology; and gender and ethnicity studies.

Please contact I.Sportel@jur.ru.nl for more information. Abstracts (up to 300 words) can be submitted until March 10, 2019.
