| As an organization and a community constituted by its members, the Middle East Studies Association continues to seek to do what we can to support all of our colleagues affected by the earthquakes.
We have been asked by some members in Turkey and Syria if we would organize a call for donations to pay for membership on behalf of scholars from Turkey and Syria — many of whom have donated their savings and thus cannot afford to pay membership to submit proposals by the extended February 23, 2023 deadline.
For residents in Turkey and Syria affected by the earthquake, we have now added an option to the Membership Exemption Request form (found at the bottom of the Call for Papers instructions).
Additionally, we are creating a new, dedicated donation fund on our Donation Page:

MESA will match all donations received, up to $10,000, by partially or totally comping registration fees for the same applicants, depending on the money raised and the number of applicants.
We fully recognize that there are so many vital needs in Turkey, Syria, and around the world right now. We therefore encourage donations to humanitarian operations first and foremost.
But since some of our members are asking what else they can do, we wanted to establish this channel of coordination so that members of MESA may support other members, in their time of need. |
