Position opening: Academic mentor for researcher in Mogadishu, Cordoba Peace Institute-Geneva (CPI) & ETH Zurich

The Project
For an academic research project on Islamic jurists shaping the actions of armed groups in conflict areas regarding issues of governance, the conduct of hostilities, and engagement in negotiations, we are looking for academic mentors with expertise on research methods and contemporary Somalia, Mozambique, Yemen, Iraq, or Mali/Burkina Faso/Niger. These mentors will guide and advise a local field researcher based in these conflict contexts in conducting research and support them in drafting papers to submit to academic journals (authorship / co-authorship will be clarified on a case-to-case basis among the local researchers, the research directors, and the academic mentors). The Templeton Religion Trust (TRT) is funding the project.
Requirements
Academic publications on the contemporary social and political realities of one of these countries: Mogadishu (Somalia).
Familiarity with Islamic Scripture (Quran and Sunnah) and its interpretation in contemporary conflict areas desirable;
Knowledge of Arabic and/or local language(s) desirable;
Experience of conducting qualitative, empirical research in conflict areas;
PhD in social science, anthropology, history, political science, or relevant field
Remuneration
9,000 USD over a time span of 18 months (academic mentor).
