Position opening: Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Middle East History, The American University in Cairo

Job Description:
The Department of Arab and Islamic Civilizations (ARIC) seeks an open-rank, full-time appointment in Middle East History before 1800, beginning in Fall 2023.
This is a fixed-term position for four years. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach various geographical regions of the Middle East complementing the department’s strong research focus on Egypt.
The successful candidate should be an engaged teacher and is expected to teach humanities courses in the AUC core curriculum, foundational survey courses in Islamic and Middle East History, and thematic courses in the history of the Middle East from 600 to 1800, as well as more specialized graduate seminars in the areas of his/her specialization. They will also be expected to actively engage in research to be published in top-tier venues in the field; supervise M.A. theses and serve on thesis committees; and provide department, school and university service. The teaching load is normally nine credit hours per semester.
Requirements:
Rank is open. Applicants must have a PhD in Islamic History, Middle East History, Arabic Studies, or a related discipline from a reputable university at the time of appointment, preferably with a record of an active research agenda and teaching experience.
