Title: “Afghanistan After the Collapse: Where Are We Now, and What Comes Next?”
Date & Time: February 15, 11am-12:15 pm ET
Location: On Zoom (register in advance)

Abstract: On the six-month anniversary of the Taliban’s swift takeover of Afghanistan, this virtual event, moderated by Davis Center Fellow Fara Abbas, explores Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Together with our expert panel of speakers, we will address the political, economic, and security developments in Afghanistan and the way forward. The consequences of a Taliban failure to govern are far-reaching.

This event will address the following questions: What can be expected from the Taliban in the coming months as they try to consolidate their power? How might the U.S. and regional governments’ relations with the Taliban evolve? And how can the humanitarian catastrophe be addressed to mitigate a looming disaster?

Speakers:

Sayed Madadi, Former Senior Member of the Joint Technical Secretariat of Afghan Peace Negotiations, IRoA

Lynne O’Donnell, journalist with “Foreign Policy” and “Tortoise”

Andrew Watkins, Senior Expert on Afghanistan, USIP

Rasool Taleb, Former Advisor to President and Member of the Negotiating Team of IRoA

Moderator: Fara Abbas, Fellow, Negotiation Task Force, Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University
