Call for Applications: Tenure Track Assistant Lectureship in Middle Eastern Studies, University of Bern

Start date: The appointment will take effect from 1 February 2021.

Duration:This post is initially limited to four years. An extension of two years is possible after positive evaluations.

 

The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Bern is inviting applications for an Assistant Lectureship in Middle Eastern Studies with special emphasis in Social Anthropology, Social or Political Sciences (tenure track position) at the Institute for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies

Prerequisites for application are a completed PhD and a promising research project aiming for a habilitation. Applicants should have excellent abilities in at least one Middle Eastern language, be engaged in innovative research and be prepared to cooperate with representatives of other disciplines and institutions. Independent teaching duties involve four hours of class per week in the corresponding bachelor’s and master’s Degree Courses. The University of Bern aims to increase the proportion of women in leading academic positions and therefore strongly encourages female scientists to apply. Job-sharing applications are possible.

The language of instruction and administration at the University of Bern is German. Applicants are expected to acquire a good working knowledge of German within two years.

Applications should contain a CV, a list of published work, a research project proposal, a list of taught courses, a description of your pedagogical methods, a list of previously acquired external funding, and a detailed account of your experience in academic administration.
