Welcome to our May Guest Blogger: Matthew L. Keegan

Matthew L. Keegan is the Moinian Assistant Professor of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures at Barnard College of Columbia University. His research program explores the intersections of Islamic law and Arabic literature. He has published articles on Islamic legal riddles, Quranic exegesis, the commentary tradition around al-Ḥarīrī’s Maqāmāt, and the prose and poetry of the Ayyubid period. These articles have appeared in Islamic Law and Society, Intellectual History of the Islamicate World, postmedieval, Poetica, al-ʿUṣūr al-Wusṭā, and the Journal of Abbasid Studies.

Before joining Barnard College, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin as part of the AnonymClassic project. He also served as an Assistant Professor at the American University of Sharjah. His PhD is from New York University, and his M.Phil is from Cambridge University.
