  • After “[t]he Madhya Pradesh High Court [India] delivered a complex judgment on inter-faith marriage [i]n a case involving a Hindu woman and a Muslim man,” “rul[ing] that their marriage wouldn’t be considered valid under Islamic law, even if they registered under the Special Marriage Act (SMA) of 1954,” one Indian Supreme Court advocate commented: “The said judgement, apart from being regressive, also fails to consider the very purpose of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The SMA was enacted to provide a comprehensive remedy and solution to those individuals who chose to get married to someone of a different faith/belief system[.]”
