Hassan S. Khalilieh (Ph.D. in NES, Princeton University 1995 & S.J.D., St. Thomas University, School of Law 2018), is an associate professor at the Program in International Security & Maritime Strategy, Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences, University of Haifa. He is a specialist in Islamic admiralty and maritime law, and international law of the sea of the Early and Classical Islamic periods. He is the author of Islamic Maritime Law: An Introduction (Leiden: E.J. Brill, 1998), Admiralty and Maritime Laws in the Mediterranean (ca. 800-1050): The Kitāb Akriyat al-Sufun vis-à-vis the Nomos Rhodion Nautikos (Leiden: E.J. Brill, 2006), and Islamic Law of the Sea: Freedom of Navigation and Passage Rights in Islamic Thought (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2019).
