Rule of Law and Judicial Reform, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State

Paul Beran, executive director of SHARIAsource, met with a visiting delegation of judicial scholars and practitioners on Thursday, 6 October 2016. The delegation of eight was part of the Rule of Law and Judicial Reform track of the International Visitor Leadership Program of the Office of International Visitors of the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State. Composed of representatives from Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt the delegation included academics, scholars, and government ministry officials.  Beran detailed for the group the goals of SHARIAsource and the scholarly tools, such as the blog and portal, used to achieve them. There was a lively discussion on how Islamic law is studied at Harvard Law School and comparisons were made to the study of it within individual country settings.
