Aya Bejermi is a legal historian of nineteenth-twentieth century Egypt. She is a doctoral candidate in legal history at the University of Bordeaux (Institut de recherche Montesquieu). Her doctoral dissertation, which she will defend on 24 March 2026, focuses on the judicial treatment of incapacity disputes before the majālis ḥisbiyya in Egypt. She examines the ‘positivisation’ phenomenon in Egypt, encompassing themes such as judicial transformations and lexical usage.
She is also a member of the research group “Hidden Heritage of the European Union,” led by Dr. Erpelding, at the MPI-LHLT in Frankfurt. She conducts project research on the Mixed Courts experiments in semi-colonial settings.
