- Muslim cryptocurrency enthusiasts in Indonesia have found a way around the recent fatwā issued by the nation’s Ulama Council, ruling that cryptocurrency is forbidden under to Islamic law.
- The Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) stated that it has started sharī’a-based financing in the housing sector.
- The Taliban‘s implementation of sharī’a in Afghanistan has recently been contrasted to the more liberal application of Islamic law in Morocco, which also trains many imāms who then take up positions in Western countries.
- The Taliban announced new rules banning women from appearing in TV dramas.

ON COVID-19 AND ISLAMIC LAW
- Indonesia has recently reported increasing vaccine hesitancy, which experts argue is due to a combination of supply issues as well as “the belief that shots other than the Chinese-made Sinovac are not “Halal,” or permissible under Islamic law, even though the Indonesian Ulema Council, the highest Islamic body, has said any of the vaccines are allowed.”
