On Islamic Law

  • In “Aborting a malformed fetus in Islamic law” (Tobacco Regulatory Science 9, no. 1 (2023)), Hamza Fortas (University of Batna 1, Algeria) and others argue that aborting a malformed fetus is compatible with Islamic law, provided that a “specialized medical committee” under the supervision of “a Sharia board” confirms that the fetus is malformed. For more content and context on debates surrounding the compatibility of abortion with Islamic law, consult our “Resource Roundup: Abortion and Islamic Law.”
