On Islamic Law

• In “The Urgency of Reforming Marriage Laws and Compilation of Islamic Law Entering the 5.0 Era” (KnowledgeE (2024)), Fathul Mu’in (State Islamic University of Raden Intan Lampung, Indonesia) and others urge legislators to update Indonesia’s marriage laws in areas including, but not limited to, the minimum marriage age,  the role of the guardian in the marriage, polygamy, and restrictions on a husband’s right to divorce.
• In “Halal tourism beyond 2020: concepts, opportunities and future research directions” (Journal of Islamic Marketing, January 4, 2024), Punit Moris Ekka (Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur, India) characterizes halal tourism as “still at a nascent stage in business research.”
• In “Instagram’s impact on sharia economic law literacy in the digital age and Indonesia’s sharia economy strengthening” (Revenue Journal: Management and Entrepreneurship 1, no. 2 (2024)), A. Ifayani Haanurat (Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, Indonesia) and others find that “Instagram is promoting sharia economic laws to improve the Islamic economy in Indonesia.”

On Islam and Data Science

• In “Enhancing cyber governance in Islamic banks: The influence of artificial intelligence and the moderating effect of Covid-19 pandemic” (International Journal of Data and Network Science 8, no. 1 (2024)), Mohammad Yousef Alghadi (Irbid National University, Jordan) and others, using a survey of 93 Islamic bank branch heads, find “that the Covid-19 Pandemic positively moderates the influence of AI on the effective application of [Cyber Governance] in Islamic banks.”

• Al-Waqāʾiʿ al-Miṣriyya online: “The ‘Digital Cairo’ sub-project of La fabrique du Caire moderne program is happy to announce that it financed the digitization of early issues of the Egyptian official gazette, held in the French National Library (Bibliothèque nationale de France, BnF). Starting with n. 3 (Jumādā al-Ākhar 1244 – January 1829), these early issues of al-Waqāʾiʿ al-Miṣriyya (the original Ottoman title is Vakayi-i Mısriyye) are in great condition and the BnF quality of scanning is also superb.”
