- In “Canonizing al-Furūq: Shihāb al-Dīn al-Qarāfī’s Text on Legal Maxims” (Oxford Journal of Law and Religion, June 7, 2024), Elias G. Saba (Grinnell College) discusses Shihāb al-Dīn al-Qarāfī’s famous legal text, Anwār al-burūq fī anwāʾ al-furūq, exploring how the text “does not align with the generic constraints of the legal distinctions genre” and “the problems that early commentators found with it.”
- In “Loss of free will from the perspective of islamic neurolaw: The Iranian criminal justice system” (Médecine & Droit, 2024, no. 184 (2024)), Arian Petoft (Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Iran) and others discuss the “application of neuroscience techniques in the Islamic criminal law system” through the example of Iran.
- In “Engaging Ulama in the Promotion of International Humanitarian Law: A Case Study from Mindanao” (Journal of Human Rights Practice, February 8, 2024), Datuan Magon (Regional Madrasah Graduate Academy, Philippines) and Dominic Earnshaw (King’s College London) discuss how “the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) produced rules of engagement in hostilities for members of its armed wing, the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces, which reference Islamic law and are also compliant with international humanitarian law (IHL).”

- In “Islamic Law and Its Influence on the Growth of Islamic Banking in Turkiye” (Manchester Journal of International Economic Law no. 1 (2024)), Bahaddin Karakus and Ozat Shamshiyev “examine[] the development of Islamic banking in Türkiye over the past two decades and assesses the challenges it encounters in achieving a significant market share.”
