  • Kuwait University is set to implement gender segregation in classrooms following an agreement between Kuwaiti MP Mohammed Haif al-Mutairi and the Minister of Education Adel al-Manea.”
  • In response to accusations of oppressing women and their access to education, a Taliban spokesperson pointed at France, commenting on the new legal framework that bans the wearing of abayas: “In France, which is always talking about education, when Muslim women wear hijab there, they are not allowed to attend university.   • An opposition politician in Malaysia recently stated that it is incumbent upon the country’s government to “guarantee that the Islamic Law, specifically the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment which exists in all 14 states will not be challenged and remains a law for all Muslims in this country.”
  • In 2022 and 2023, “Saudi authorities continued to execute individuals for a wide range of crimes despite the authorities repeated promises to limit executions in cases where the death penalty is not mandated under Sharia (Islamic Law),” according to an Amnesty International report.   • The Iraqi government requested the extradition of an Iraqi protester in Sweden who recently burned a copy of the Qur’ān, which the protester explained as a move by the Iraqi government “so that  [he] can be judged and held accountable in Iraq according to Islamic laws.”
