Covid-19 has delayed hope of pilgrimage to Mecca for millions of Muslims for a second year. In a recent sermon, the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, called for a science-led approach to Christianity and Islam in combatting the coronavirus.

The President of the Malaysian Islamic Party, Abdul Hadi Awang, stated in a public message that the COVID-19 pandemic is a test from Allāh. Indonesian Islamic cleric Rizieq Shihab, the leader of the now-banned Islam Defenders Front, was sentenced to four years of imprisonment for concealing his COVID-19 test result. Rises in prices for this year's pilgrimage (hajj) have been attributed to additional costs associated with measures against COVID-19.
